Have you recently moved in to a new home? You may have purchased a new home or started renting a new place in Roanoke or other areas. As a locksmith we know how unsecure a new home can be. Think about it! Someone hands you keys to a lock on a door that leads in to your new living space where you, your family, and all your items and valuables may be kept. It is an exciting time but remember those keys handed to you are not “controlled”, in other words you have uncontrolled security. Those keys could have copies in the hands of past tenants, homeowners, service technicians, electricians, painters, flooring, repair men, the list goes on. It is no safe and it is not secure.
When you move in to a new home always insist that your locks be changed! If they say it has already been done, be sure you FACT CHECK that claim and ask who changed the locks and when? Tell them you want to verify that it has been done because you have had issues in the past. Don’t feel like you are being pushy or paranoid. Peoples homes are entered all the time with keys that should not be circulating!
