DIY Locksmith Lock Picking Tips
There are several Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to bypassing or picking car doors. Here are a few tips from a professional locksmith that may help you.
Car Door Locked / Open A Car Door without Keys
The number one most effective way to bypass a car door lock is a wedge and pole method. You put a wedge in the door to create a gap so you an slid a pole or something like a coat hangar in to the car. A coat hangar is a little flimsy so something like a coat hangar but stiffer would be best. I’ve seen people use metal mop or broom handle flattened out, curtain rods that flatten and bend and other items. When you get something in the door you have 2 or 3 options. You can press the door electric unlock button, or pull the inside door opening handle, or pull up or flip the inside lock itself. You might also (on manual non electric windows) roll the window down.
Slim Jims – Not recommends on most cars today because you will most likely cause damage to your electronics or small parts in the door. Trust me.
String method to open car doors – This actually works sometimes and I have done it. Check youtube out for “open car door with string” to watch a video on how to do this.
What you should NOT do to unlock a car:
Do not shove a Slim Jim or coat hangar down in to your door. This will most likely not work and just cause damage.
Do not break you window! That is expensive and just dumb.
Do not use a screw driver or other hard metal item to wedge or pry your door open. Serious damage will occur that is expensive to fix and you will not get enough space to work from this usually. (Use a wedge door stop or homemade wooden wedge).
I have never tried to unlock a car door on my own because I have been afraid of any damage it might cause. I don’t have any experience with it so I agree with your tips on not using a slim jim or coat hanger. It’s good to know some tips on how to do it on my own.
